What is Earth Defense Force 5?

Earth, 20XX. Out of nowhere, massive alien hordes descend upon the planet. As part of the Earth Defense Force (EDF), you'll fight back against immense swarms in the series' largest entry yet, featuring over 100 missions and an arsenal of more than 1,000 weapons and gear combinations. Take on the invasion solo as an unstoppable one-man army, map out tactical strategies for each division type, refine your skill across five difficulty levels. Defend the whole planet and squad up online with three other players from around the world.

Choose from Four Divisions to Support Different Tactics

Command four distinct divisions—the "Ranger" (versatile, quintessential ground infantry), the "Wing Diver" (a female-only unit capable of flight), the "Fencer" (heavily armored soldiers wielding massive weapons), and the "Air Raider" (a command HQ that directs air support and artillery)—and confront the invaders with courage and wisdom.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Earth Defense Force 5 incorporates systems from the latest entry in the series.
We've added subtitle and damage display features, an improved button layout, and better control for dashing, etc..
The game is compatible with the upcoming sequel "Earth Defense Force 6," evolving the system and making it more user-friendly.
Another plus is that game progress—previously controlled separately for online and offline modes—is now synchronized. The resulting environment makes it easier to defend Earth.

Nintendo Switch 2 Version New Features

In addition to existing online co-play, it now supports local wireless play.
You can connect your Nintendo Switch 2 consoles with friends and family for in-person co-play with up to four players.
In handheld mode, it supports gyro-based controls, enabling intuitive aiming.
It also supports split-screen, two-player simultaneous play—a feature not available in previous Nintendo Switch versions.
